Our philosophy at South Arbor Animal Hospital is that preventative health care is the key to the full and healthy life of your dog or cat.  Dr. Noel recommends an annual, or bi-annual, wellness exam, depending upon your pet’s physical health, age and medical needs.

The wellness exam provides an opportunity for you to discuss your pet’s health one on one with Dr. Noel.  You may wish to discuss dental care, arthritis, nutrition, immunizations or any lifestyle changes your pet may be experiencing.

For adult dogs we recommend:

  • A Complete Physical Examination
  • Weight AssessmentDental Evaluation
  • Blood test to detect
  • Heartworm DiseaseFecal Analysis/Internal Parasite Test
  • Yearly Deworming
  • Vaccinations as needed

For adult cats we recommend:

  • A Complete Physical Examination
  • Weight Assessment
  • Dental Evaluation
  • Fecal Analysis/Internal Parasite Test
  • Yearly Deworming
  • Vaccinations as needed

During your pet’s wellness exam, Dr. Noel will give your pet a full physical evaluation. She will examine his or her vision, hearing, heart and lung functions, test the joints and muscles, palpate the abdomen and perform many other tests. The information she collects during an exam helps her establish a baseline level of your pet’s health and allows her to better treat your pet.

Our annual exam also includes a dental evaluation. Dental care is very important, especially to our older animals. Dr. Noel will examine your pet’s teeth and gums for plaque and tartar, tooth weakness and decay. This screening often prevents mouth pain and infections that can affect your pet’s overall health. We tailor vaccination plans to fit the needs of your pet

Vaccinating your pet keeps them healthy by preventing serious diseases.  Pets have different lifestyles and need to be given individual attention and consideration at vaccination time.  At South Arbor Animal Hospital, vaccine programs are tailored individually for each pet.

In creating your pet’s vaccination plan, Dr. Noel will take into consideration your pet’s lifestyle such as exposure to the outdoors, travel plans, boarding plans, breed, health status and immune competence. These factors may change over time, so it’s best to review your pet’s vaccination plan at each wellness exam.  Dr. Noel will discuss with you what you have planned for your pet’s life in the months ahead and what has happened in the past. Information about vaccination reactions in the past is of critical importance for your pet’s safety during future vaccinations, so be sure to discuss your pet’s vaccination history with Dr. Noel.

Weight Management

We monitor your animal’s weight so we can recommend modifications in diet or exercise if needed. During the annual wellness exam, Dr. Noel may discuss your pet’s nutritional needs and weight management guidelines with you. A healthy body weight is important for your dog or cat to have a long and healthy life.
